Brazilian police are investigating alleged irregularities in the renovation of the Ministry of Health’s headquarters

The Brazilian police are investigating alleged irregularities in the award of services for the renovation of the headquarters of the superintendent of the Ministry of Health in Rio de Janeiro, which was carried out urgently in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The work was carried out during the mandate of former Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello. Authorities suspect certain companies were selected by military personnel to carry out the renovation without tendering. For this they would have used the pandemic as a justification for considering the work as “urgent”.

According to the investigation, the total value of the non-tender contract is approximately 20 million Brazilian reais (more than 3.1 million euros) while the contracted company does not have the economic or operational capacity to execute the signed contract.
