Operation False Negative, launched by the district prosecutor’s office, aims to arrest seven people, including Araújo, who is part of the regional government’s health secretariat.
According to the prosecutor, the aim is to dismantle a suspected criminal organization installed in the Ministry of Health in order to manipulate provider selection and make money by artificially increasing the value of the tests.
According to the news portal G1, the investigators could have caused damage to public coffers of up to 18 million reais (2.7 million euros) through these irregularities.
