Brazil, the country most affected by the Latin American coronavirus pandemic, broke the barrier of 200,000 positives in the country on Thursday as it registered 13,944 new cases in the past 24 hours.
In particular, Brazil has registered a total of 202,918 coronavirus cases so far, while the number of deaths has increased to 13,993 after 844 more deaths were confirmed this Thursday. In addition, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the cause of death of another 2,000 people is being investigated.
On the other hand, the Brazilian Ministry of Health has reported that the total stock of COVID-19 in the country has increased to 79,479 people, which is 39.2 percent of the total.
Despite these numbers, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was against the imposition of detention measures in the Latin American country to stop the pandemic, which would unduly damage the country’s economy.
In the absence of government measures, the state and local authorities appealed to the Brazilian Supreme Court, which decided to give the governors and local authorities full authority to determine their own measures to curb the disease’s progression.
