Brazil has registered 13,140 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, representing a total of 255,368 infections in the country, outperforming the United Kingdom, which had previously been the third country most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In terms of the number of deaths, Brazil confirmed 674 new deaths on the last day, so that 16,853 people in the South American country have already died from the disease. This is clear from the recent Johns Hopkins University record.
Brazil, which has always been the hardest hit country on the South American continent from the start, has seen it outperform other countries in a few days, such as France, Italy, Spain, and now the UK.
In terms of the number of victims, however, it is still in sixth place after all these countries.
Despite these numbers, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was always against the introduction of detention measures, as they would unduly damage the country’s economy.
