Brazil is suspending all measures to combat deforestation in the Amazon

The Brazilian Ministry of the Environment announced this Friday that it would suspend all measures to combat deforestation and the fires in the Amazon region due to a budget blockade.

The agency has reported that “due to the financial blockade carried out by the Federal Budget Secretariat today, all operations to combat illegal deforestation in the Amazon will be interrupted on Monday, August 31, from midnight.” as well as all fire-fighting operations in the Pantanal and other regions of the country, “it said in a statement.

The ministry has indicated that the blockade of around 60 million reais (more than 9.3 million euros) is due to a decision by the government secretariat.
