The Brazilian Ministry of Health reported an increase of 20,647 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the country to 888,271 positive cases, while the number of deaths has risen from 627 to 43,959 in the past 24 hours.

Official numbers again differ from those of the Brazilian media, which announced a partnership a week ago after the Ministry of Health, under the orders of President Jair Bolsonaro, decided to change the methodology for the number of deaths.

In the meantime, health authorities added all deaths that were registered on the same day, regardless of when the death occurred. This was seen by Bolsonaro as a way to “distort” reality and trigger public alarmism.
