The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell has announced his support for the Moroccan Foreign Minister Naser Bourita for the Moroccan initiative to facilitate dialogue between the opposing parties in Libya, which was agreed through an agreement between the Unity Government of Tripoli and the Parliament of Tobruk for the distribution of institutional positions.
As reported by Borrell’s office, the two of them had a long phone conversation commenting on the prospect that is now opening in Libya after the pact in the Moroccan city of Bouznika.
“The High Representative has welcomed and supported this Moroccan initiative as a timely contribution to the efforts of the United Nations to find a political solution to the Libyan crisis,” said a press release.
Community diplomacy underlines that peace in Libya is essential for stability throughout the Maghreb, which connects Brussels and Rabat. Borrell and Bourita agreed to closely monitor events and intensify the ongoing political dynamic between the parties involved in the conflict.
