In addition, central issues such as the fight against drugs, development cooperation, environmental protection and security policy are to be addressed at the meetings for both sides.

Borrell will travel to Brazil on Wednesday, where he will meet with representatives from the private sector in Sao Paulo. The next day in Brasilia he scheduled meetings with Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franco, Defense Minister Braga Netto and Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco, but not with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

The Head of Community Diplomacy will conclude the visit by finding out about European humanitarian projects in Brazil and a United Nations reception center for Venezuelan refugees.
