EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said on Monday that the only “structured dialogue” between Serbia and Kosovo is the EU-sponsored one few days after Serbia and Kosovo met with the President in Washington. Donald Trump.
In a speech at the Forum of the German Marshall Fund, Borrell thanked the White House for his efforts and brought Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovar Hashim Thaci together at a negotiating table. He said that he was not competing with the United States for the “medal award” in the Balkans, but reiterated that the EU had the only “structured” dialogue in a conflict in its own neighborhood.
Borrell has insisted that the EU must play a crucial role since Serbia and Kosovo are a problem that is in the immediate vicinity of the European bloc. “If we cannot solve this problem, we cannot claim to be an international political player,” he warned.
With this in mind, he mentioned the leadership of France and Germany in order to bring the main players from Serbia and Kosovo together soon and to advance the process led by the EU.
