Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has appointed Evangelical Pastor Milton Ribeiro Minister of Education, a nod to the electorate of his electorate that has been sharply criticized by his predecessor Carlos Alberto Decotelli. Ribeiro has argued that the father should be the one who “sets the direction for the family to follow” and attacked the “gender ideology”.
The decision was published by Bolsonaro himself on social networks and immediately published in an extraordinary edition in the “Diário Oficial da União”, which corresponds to the BOE. Ribeiro was Vice Rector of Mackenzie University in São Paulo.
“I have appointed Professor Milton Ribeiro to head the Department of Education. He is a doctor of education from the USP, a Master of Law from Mackenzie Presbyterian University and a graduate in law and theology. He has been a member of the Presidency of the Republic of Ethics since May 2019,” said Bolsonaro .
Ribeiro is Bolsonaro’s fourth minister of education in just over a year and a half. The appointment has a pronounced technical character, but also satisfies the evangelical sectors and the so-called ideological wing under the direction of the writer Olavo de Carvalho. One of Ribeiro’s priorities will be the “cultural war” against the left, which has already been celebrated by the private education sector.
