Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said in a surprising announcement that the Brazilian President has repeatedly denied infection and minimized relevance, said he had already identified the new corona virus and had overcome the COVID-19 pandemic .
Bolsonaro recalled in a Facebook show that the tests done so far were negative, but added a nuance: “I think I already had it.” According to the Brazilian press, the president does not rule out a new test to check whether he has antibodies.
Even so, Bolsonaro has called for “not to be afraid” and not to be “overly concerned” about a virus that he said could reach 70 percent of the population. Brazil is the second most affected country in the world today with 1.2 million cases and around 55,000 deaths.
The judiciary has forced Bolsonaro to publish the coronavirus tests after some of the people who accompanied him on a trip to the US in March tested positive. This week, a judge also ordered the president to wear the mask in the federal district.
Despite the controversy, support for Bolsonaro has hardly changed in recent months. A survey published by the newspaper “Folha de Sao Paulo” puts the support rate for the president at 32 percent, compared to 67 percent who have a “normal” or “bad” opinion.
