Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced this Sunday that he would be sending his predecessor, former President Michel Temer, as head of the Brazilian relief mission to Lebanon after the severe explosion in the port of Beirut, the Lebanese capital.
The announcement was made by Bolsonaro during a video conference convened by French President Emmanuel Macron and other leading figures.
From Brazil, where the largest Lebanese diaspora in the world lives, President Bolsonaro has also announced that it will ship food and medicine to Beirut.
“Brazil is home to the largest Lebanese diaspora in the world. Ten million Brazilians of Lebanese descent form an active, dynamic and participatory community that makes an invaluable contribution to our country. That is why everything that affects Lebanon affects us outside of our own home and country, “the president said in comments to ‘O Sur’.
