Bolivia’s Department of Health epidemiology chief Virgilio Prieto warned this Friday that coronavirus cases in the country could double over the next week to ensure 4,000 infections can be reached.
“The epidemic is starting to accelerate,” said Prieto, as the number of infected people managed by the Ministry of Health doubles every seven days and is now at 2,266. “The virus has a very high rate of spread, one infected infects about four,” he said.
Prieto has indicated that the pandemic will peak in mid-July if the quarantine measures imposed on the population are followed, the El Deber newspaper said.
In particular, the health care official has indicated that three departments have exceeded the average of positive cases at the national level: Beni, Santa Cruz and Oruro.
