Bolivian Education Minister, Víctor Hugo Cárdenas, has announced that all students up to and including high school will pass the course due to the difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
“I would like to inform the parents that this year no pupil will fail at the initial, primary and secondary levels. We are in a difficult context, there is a health crisis,” he announced on Sunday in an appearance to collect the Bolivian Press.
Cárdenas took this step after the “failure” of negotiations between the Ministry of Education and the teacher unions in urban and rural areas to agree on the conditions for the next academic year, according to the Bolivian newspaper “La Razón”.
In Bolivia, classroom instruction was interrupted on March 11th and has not been resumed since, although teachers and parents denounce that not all students can follow the lessons online.
