Bolivia has added more than 400 cases of coronavirus in the past few hours, of which a total of nearly 5,000 cases, including around 200 deaths, have occurred as part of the Ministry of Health scandal over the alleged fraudulent purchase of respirators that led to the termination and arrest of the minister.
On the last day, 438 new cases were registered, most of them in Santa Cruz (259) – the epicenter of the coronavirus in Bolivia – for a total of 4,919. Ten deaths were also recorded, a total of 199 deaths, while 553 have already overcome the disease.
By area, Santa Cruz remains the most affected by the pandemic with 3,241 cases, followed by Beni with 833 cases. La Paz at 363; Cochabamba at 259; Oruro at 138; and Potosí, Chuquisaca, Tarija and Pando, who are under 50.
This is the largest increase in cases in Bolivia in recent weeks and occurs at a time of changes in the Ministry of Health due to the hiring and arrest of its former owner Marcelo Navajas for allegedly exceeding the cost of buying 170 respiratory devices from a Spanish company, that triggered a serious political crisis.
