Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates first responded about why he’s the largest private owner of farmland in America.
During an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session on Reddit this weekend to mark the launch of his new book, “How to Avoid a Climate Catastrophe,” the billionaire answered various questions.
As reported by the website AGFunder Newsa user asked him “Hey, Bill! Why are you buying so much farmland?” to which Gates replied that seed science and biofuel development were the main drivers of the acquisitions.
“My investment group chose it. It’s not weather related, ”he wrote.
Earlier this year, the businessman and his wife were appointed by The land report With 98,000 acres in Louisiana (28,000 acres), Arkansas (20,000 acres) and Arizona (10,500 acres), they are America’s largest private farmland owners by area.
This is the first time Gates has made public comments on land purchases by companies affiliated with him and his wife, Melinda.
