Biden hopes to meet Putin on his trip to Europe in June

United States President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he had “the hope and expectation” of meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in person on his next trip to Europe, which is scheduled for June.

“We are working on it,” said the US President from the White House when asked about the possible appointment that would take place on the trip to the G7 summit in the UK and a meeting with NATO and the European Union in Belgium.

In this context, the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken pointed out in an interview with the British media Financial Times that Biden believes it is important to be “clear and direct” with Putin.

Blinken explained that one of the best ways to be is to meet in person. “(Biden) has had a few conversations with President Putin on the phone now and there is no secret, even before he was elected president, he knew that if Russia takes aggressive and reckless action, we will react.” emphasized.

In this context, both countries are working to arrange a face-to-face meeting between the heads of state and government after Biden suggested a meeting in a third country in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart.

Washington recently attacked Russia in retaliation for the SolarWinds Corp. hack. and the treatment of the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni imposed additional sanctions. However, Biden said that while the United States and Russia have their differences, he would like to work with Moscow on a number of issues such as nuclear weapon reduction and climate change.
