Bernie Sanders – Michael Brochstein

Senator Bernie Sanders, one of the favorites to win the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential elections in the United States, has labeled the current situation in Bolivia on Sunday “coup d'etat” and has recognized the “good work” performed by the now former president Evo Morales.
After being asked about the Bolivian crisis, Sanders has highlighted Morales's support for the country's indigenous community and has asserted that “when the Army intervenes, that is called a coup d'etat,” according to the news portal Politico México .
“I think Morales did a very good job of alleviating poverty and giving the indigenous people of Bolivia a voice they had not had before. We can debate whether it is smart or not to come back for a fourth term, but in the end it was the Army that intervened in the process, “he said.
Morales thanked the “brother” Sanders gesture through Twitter. “To highlight our task of reducing poverty and denouncing the #GolpeDeEstadoEnBoliva,” he added, assuming that “the international community demands Bolivia's return to democracy.”
It is not the first time that Sanders has pronounced on the crisis that Bolivia is going through since the elections were held on October 20. A week ago, he said he felt “very worried about what appeared to be a coup in Bolivia.”
“The Army, after weeks of protests, has intervened to expel President Evo Morales,” he said before urging the US authorities to “call for an end to the violence” and offer “support to Bolivian democratic institutions.”
