According to the latest official data from the Belgian health service on Wednesday, 47,859 people have been infected with the corona virus in Belgium since the pandemic, and 7,501 people have died from the effects of the disease.
Less than half of the deaths (46 percent) were recorded in hospitals, while the majority (53 percent) occurred in nursing homes and less than 1 percent in private homes or other places.
In the past 24 hours, the number of patients who had to be admitted was 174, which is a slight increase compared to the previous day. However, the curve remains below the 200 daily cases under which Belgium has held days in the past.
A total of 4,050 people remain in the hospital, including 797 in intensive care units, said the spokesman for the crisis center and the public health system.
Belgium is preparing to start the easing phase of containment measures next Monday, May 4th. When the first companies resume their activities without direct customer contact, the public kindergartens will be reopened, at least in Brussels and Wallonia. Users over the age of twelve must wear a mask in public transport.
