Belgium has surpassed the 50,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection since the pandemic began on Monday and, according to the public health service, is close to 8,000 deaths on the day the country begins the first phase of its gradual exit from the country.
In the past 24 hours, 80 people have been killed by the virus and 361 new positives have been diagnosed, resulting in a total of 7,924 deaths and 50,267 people infected.
A total of 3,044 patients remain in hospitals, of which 655 remain in the intensive care unit. The official spokesman for the management of the coronavirus, Yves Laethem, has emphasized that the number of patients in the intensive care unit is less than 50% of the profession registered in the most difficult moments.
Laethem also recalled that it is necessary to postpone the registration of clinical cases for twice the incubation period to speak of the end of the pandemic.
