The Belarusian Defense Ministry assured this Friday that it has invited Poland to open a round of talks on the situation at the border, where in recent months the tensions that have led to a migration crisis at the EU’s external borders have increased.
In a message shared through its channel on the instant messaging network Telegram, the Defense Portfolio has assured that “it has offered to hold border talks with the Polish military unit in which the two parties will discuss issues identified as critical”, highlights the Russian news agency Sputnik.
From Minsk, they indicated that starting talks would be a first step in a constructive dialogue between the two countries, for which they have already worked, as the representative of the Belarusian Defense Ministry, Valeri Revenko, held a series of meetings with the military attachés, including the Polish ones where the main theme was border tension.
The news comes on the same day that the political and propaganda pulse between Poland and Belarus has witnessed a new episode with the alleged desertion of a Polish soldier, which was shown this Friday on Belarusian public television, while on the other side of the border It is still investigating whether, as Minsk claims, he has applied for asylum.
Relations between the two neighboring countries have been strained in recent months after thousands of migrants crowded along the Polish border to enter EU territory. Both Warsaw and Brussels accuse Minsk of fueling this stream in retaliation for sanctions against the government of Alexander Lukashenko.
