The Belarusian authorities announced on Thursday the opening of a new trial against opposition blogger Sergei Tijanovski, husband of presidential candidate Svetlana Tijanovskaya, in this case for inciting violence related to the protests called on the same day.
The Belarus Investigations Committee detailed in a statement released by Telegram that the investigation is linked to the recent arrest of more than 30 Russian mercenaries suspected of attacking and other destabilizing acts in the light of the September 9 presidential election available from August.
He said the lawsuit against the blogger had been opened for alleged “deliberate measures to instigate social hostility, instigate violent actions against law enforcement officials, and prepare for mass uprisings.” something for which the opponent Mikalai Statkevich is also being investigated.
The 41-year-old Tijanovski originally planned to run for the presidency, but was unable to submit the necessary documents due to his arrest. His 38-year-old wife chose instead after collecting the required signatures.
