Barnier warns London that he is violating his Brexit commitments and threatens to break the deal

May 31, 2020

European Union chief negotiator for Brexit, Michel Barnier, has warned the UK that it is failing to meet the commitments made under the Brexit agreement and has threatened to break the agreement if it continues to do so .

“London has resigned, two steps back, three steps back from its original commitments,” he told the Sunday Times before the fourth round of negotiations on Britain’s exit from the EU, which begins this week.

Barner has warned that there will be no agreement if London does not respect the political message that both sides agreed on as a starting point last year. “If a certain level of realism is not shown, we will remain without an agreement,” he warned.

The European negotiator recalled that the next round of negotiations would be crucial to achieve a post-Brexit trade deal with the UK after three rounds of previous talks ended with no tangible results.
