Residents of Barbados and other Caribbean islands are preparing for heavy rains when tropical storm 'Dorian' stirred west-northwest and officials have warned that the storm could have the force of a hurricane on Tuesday.
Barbados, which is closer to the path of the storm, has suffered strong winds and intermittent rains this Monday night, with thunder and periodic lightning.
The Barbados Meteorological Services have warned residents to be careful and have pointed out that the wind speed has increased in the last six hours and will be further strengthened during the night and through Tuesday morning.
'Dorian' is expected to approach the Windward Islands on Monday night before arriving in the Eastern Caribbean on Tuesday, according to the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) in a report .
On Monday afternoon, the storm was about 48 kilometers east-southeast of Barbados, with maximum winds of up to 96 kilometers per hour, according to the NHC.
