Yuan Meng, whose name means “the realisation of a wish” or “accomplishment of a dream”, was named in a ceremony in December.
His naming ceremony was an important diplomatic moment involving high-profile French and Chinese dignitaries.
The French first lady, Brigitte Macron, was named the panda’s ‘godmother’ at the Beauval zoo in Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher.
Yuan Meng’s parents are on loan to Beauval zoo from China, and he will be sent to a Chinese panda reserve when he is weaned in two or three years.
Now aged just four months, he stunned visitors to Beauval with his adorable antics in his first public appearance on Saturday.
