Azerbaijan accepts the Russian proposal to set up a commission to demarcate the border with Armenia

The Prime Minister of the Azerbaijani government, Ali Asadov, has reported that his country has accepted the Russian proposal to create a tripartite commission to demarcate the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Ali Asadov has announced that (…) Azerbaijan supports Russia’s proposal to set up a trilateral commission for the demarcation and delimitation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” said the Azerbaijani government in a statement by the Russian news agency Sputnik.

Asadov attended a meeting of the heads of government of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Minsk on Friday.

Tensions on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, historically affected by the Nagorno-Karabakh region, have increased since mid-May after several months of relative calm following the 2020 fighting.
