Austria should remove the mandatory mask in schools and tourist attractions in mid-June

May 29, 2020

The Austrian government announced this Friday that as of June 15, the population will no longer need to wear a corona virus protective mask in schools, shops and tourist locations.

The announcement came on a day when the total number of 650 cases in a country that was one of the first European countries to force a mask since early April has already declined to prevent the outbreak from spreading.

However, the government has emphasized that the mandatory mask in public transport, restaurants, hairdressers and in places where it is impossible to keep a distance of at least one meter remains in force.

“We will take off our masks step by step,” said Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz at a press conference in Vienna, where he explained the start of a new phase “with fewer rules but more personal responsibility”.
