The Australian state of Victoria (southeast) has registered 17 new deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a single day in the entire country since the pandemic began.
Victoria Prime Minister Daniel Andrews reported this Sunday that an additional 17 deaths and 394 new cases were discovered in those 24 hours, according to the Australian network ABC.
Victoria and especially its capital Melbourne are the main scene of the second coronavirus wave in Australia, in which 21,084 people are already infected and 295 people die.
Andrews has pointed out that the “mysterious cases”, the source of which is unknown, pose the greatest challenge to stop the virus from spreading in the Australian state.
