Two employees of the NGO Norwegian Popular Aid (NPA, abbreviation for English) died this Sunday as a result of a bomb explosion in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands.
Australian citizen Trent Lee and Briton Stephen Atkinson are the two deceased, as the NGO they worked for revealed. Both were in this archipelago in the South Pacific and had been doing fieldwork to contaminate unexploded ordnance since World War II.
“We are devastated by what happened and the loss of two good colleagues,” lamented NPA General Secretary Henriette Killi Westhrin in a statement.
The Solomon Islands police have announced that they are already investigating this “tragic” incident and have asked the people around the area where the explosion took place in the west of the capital not to leave their homes before any new explosions may occur.
