At least two people have died and some 30 have been injured, several of them seriously, as a result of the derailment of a passenger train as it passes through the town of Ospitaletto Lodigiano, in northern Italy, the news agency Adnkronos reported .
One of the fatalities is the train driver. As a result of the accident, the service of the High Speed line that connects Milan with Bologna has been suspended since 5.30 on Thursday.
Fire brigades have moved to the site of the rail accident. The Italian railway company Red Ferroviaria de Italia (RFI) has said in a statement that the causes of the accident “are being investigated.
After the incident, the trains have been diverted to the conventional railway line linking Milan with Piacenza, accumulating delays of up to 60 minutes.
