The Ecuadorian attorney general has confirmed that at least ten prisoners have died and six police officers were critically wounded after an uprising was registered in a prison in the city of Guayaquil on Monday.

The uprising has been unleashed in the Litoral Penitentiary, the prosecutor said in a message posted on his Twitter account that he said the investigation has already begun and that the Ecuadorian police have continued to collect evidence .

The comprehensive deprivation of liberty service (SNAI) is examining the possibility that the rebellion may have started after a gang attacked another under prison control, reports the local newspaper ‘El Comercio’. Investigators are aware that there are two divided gangs in the prison in question, “Los Choneros” and “Los Lagartos”.
