At least six militiamen have died in military operations in the past few hours by the Indian army in the troubled region of Jammu and Kashmir, the part of the area controlled by India that has historically been controversial with Pakistan.

Three of the militiamen died during an operation in the town of Amisphora in Shopian after receiving a notice about “terrorist operations in the region”.

A similar operation had recently taken place in the Kulgam parish, involving three terrorists, including a commander in chief of the separatist group Jaish e Mohammad, an expert in the use of homemade bombs.
