At least seven people died and another five were injured in an accident this Wednesday on a highway in northern Greece related to the smuggling of migrants.
The accident vehicle is a truck that collided with a concrete block in a construction area of the Egnatia Odos highway that leads to Turkey at the height of Alexandroupolis, as the news agency AMNA reports.
Local media have indicated that the van would be involved in migrant smuggling. The Egnatia Odos motorway, which connects Greece and Turkey, is a common passage for the mafias who smuggle migrants.
According to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), around 11,000 migrants, including asylum seekers and immigrants, have come to Greece this year, including around 2,400 across the land border.
