At least seven people have died this Thursday from a gas leak registered in a factory in Andhra Pradesh, southern India, the local newspaper The Hindu reports.
According to initial information, the styrene gas leak has reached a radius of about three kilometers and affects at least five cities near the factory. The flight killed seven people, including a six-year-old girl, and injured dozens of people.
The wounded were taken to a government hospital in Gopalapatnam and King George Hospital. The gas leak was registered in the Hindustan Polymers factory on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam.
Local authorities have warned that the death toll could increase in the coming hours due to the high number of injuries being treated in hospitals. The leak was discovered at 2:30 a.m. and quickly spread over a five-kilometer radius.
