At least seven dead in a cargo plane crash in the Russian province of Irkutsk

An Antonov-12 freighter of the Belarusian airline Grodno crashed in the Russian province of Irkutsk in Siberia on Wednesday.

After the accident, the plane caught fire and the leaked fuel caused the flames to spread over an area of ​​almost 300 square meters, said the Russian agency TASS.

According to the authorities, only crew members of Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian nationalities were on the plane.

Although the causes of the accident are unknown at the moment, aviation services have told the news agency that an investigation has been launched that is holding multiple lines open, ranging from a pilot error to technical problems.

A team of at least 100 emergency services is working on site, where four ambulances and four other emergency vehicles have been relocated.

In addition, criminal proceedings were initiated on suspicion of violations of traffic and flight safety regulations.
