MADRID, Nov. 18 (EUROPE PRESS) –
At least one person died on Monday after a bridge collapsed over the Tarn river in the French town of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn, located northeast of Toulouse, which has caused the fall of a truck and two cars into the river.
According to information collected by the French newspaper 'La Dépêche du Midi', the mortal victim is a 15-year-old teenager who was traveling with his parents in one of the cars that has fallen into the river because of the collapse.
The Firefighters of the department of Alta Garona have indicated through their account on the social network Twitter that nine people have been injured and four people have been rescued on the bank of the river, while confirming the deployment of three helicopters in the area .
Search operations continue in the area because several people remain missing. “After two hours of searching in vain, there is a risk that the situation will develop unfavorably,” said a rescue worker.
For his part, the mayor of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn, Eric Oget, stressed that “there has been a great deflagration” during the collapse and added that “at first he thought that a plane had crashed.”
The newspaper said that the bridge would have collapsed during the passage of a large tonnage truck and shortly after a school bus crossed the structure, 150 meters long and built in 1935, although it was renovated in 2003.
