At least one person has died and four others are missing after a ferry was destroyed shortly after leaving the Thai island of Koh Samui, the ship operator reported on Sunday.
The transport ferry carried 12 crew members and four passengers when it got into a storm that caused it to sink, Raja Ferry Port said in a statement.
In the first hours of the rescue operation, which lasted all day, the emergency services managed to save nine people.
Two crew members were found alive on a nearby island, and the body found was identified as the ferry captain, according to a statement on the Facebook page of the Surat Thani Department of Public Affairs.
The search and rescue mission was suspended overnight due to bad weather, but will resume on Monday morning as four more people can be found.
