At least one person has died and 30 were injured this Friday when a high-speed train derailed at the height of the Portuguese city of Soure in Coimbra (center), the RTP public channel said.
The event occurred around 3:30 p.m. local time when the train encountered a technical assistance vehicle on the Alfa Pendular high-speed line that was repairing the line.
There were 280 people on board, one of whom confirmed death and at least 30 were injured. The driver was involved in the iron chaos, sources quoted by RTP said.
144 soldiers and 29 emergency vehicles were deployed on site, although reinforcements are expected. Given the size of the accident, a field hospital is being established in the region, according to Portuguese radio television.
