At least one person has died and 18 others were injured in a car bomb attack, followed by an armed raid on Sunday in a jail in Jalalabad, capital of the Afghan province of Nangarhar in eastern Afghanistan.
First, a suicide bomber blew up the vehicle that led to the prison gate before a group of militiamen shot to the top floor of the prison, the spokesman for the Nangarhar governorate reported.
Local sources have informed the data protection agency that the number of victims could be higher as the attack is still ongoing. Gunshots can be heard both in the main prison building and in facilities around the prison grounds.
The Taliban have denied any involvement in the attack, according to sources from the Afghan network Tolo News. This Sunday is the third day of the stop between the Taliban and the Afghan government on the occasion of the Eid al Adha festival.
