At least nine dead in a railway accident in northwest China

At least nine people were killed in a railway accident in northwest China’s Gansu Province, state media reported on Friday.

The rescue work began after a train collided with railroad workers near Jinchang in central Gansu province at around 5:25 a.m. local time, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing the group of the China Railway Bureau in Lanzhou.

According to the CCTV broadcaster, a passenger train from Urumqi in the northwestern province of Xinjiang in the direction of the city of Hangzhou in the east of the country ran over railway personnel on the Lanxin route.
