At least five killed in a fire in a coronavirus patient hospital in St. Petersburg

The fire started at 6:20 a.m. (local time) at Saint George Hospital in the Viborgski district in the north of the city. “The fire in the hospital left five dead,” confirmed an emergency spokesman, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported.

The media above have added that another source of emergency has indicated that, according to preliminary investigations, the cause of the fire was “an electrical equipment failure”. “A short circuit” has been nuanced. “Part of the hospital was realigned to treat coronavirus patients,” he said.

A spokesman for the Russian Emergency Ministry had previously confirmed that “according to preliminary data, deaths have unfortunately been recorded in the intensive care unit”, although he has not stated the number.
