At least five people have died and several more were injured on Monday as a result of the massive explosion in Jolo in the southern Philippines, according to the country’s anti-terrorist force.
The explosion occurred in front of a square in the main artery of the city of Jolo on the island of Sulu, whose population is predominantly Muslim, according to the above source.
“A parked motorcycle (…) exploded, causing numerous casualties,” he said, indicating that the vehicle was parked near a military truck.
There were two explosions in the region, according to ABS-CBN local media. The first, which took place near an army truck carrying groceries, was followed by another when police cordoned off the area and two officers were injured.
