At least eight people, including six French tourist workers, were killed in an armed attack in western Niger, local official sources have confirmed.
The attack took place near Kouré in the Tillaberi region, as Governor Ibrahim Katiela announced this Sunday. The other two deceased are the driver of the vehicle they were traveling in and a guide, both Nigerians, according to the ActuNiger portal.
There is a reserve in Kouré, a tourist area that is about fifty kilometers southeast of Niamey, the capital, and not very close to the area where the terrorist groups operating in eastern Burkina Faso are deployed.
The attackers have so far been identified as a “group of heavily armed motorcyclists,” the governor reported in a statement collected by the DPA.
