At least 50 people have died this Thursday from the derailment of a train during the early morning in the province of Tanganyika, in the southern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to a first balance sheet offered by the Minister of National Solidarity, Steve Mbikayi.

The event has taken place around 3.00 in the town of Mayibaridi, without at the moment there being more details about the origin and destination of the train, according to local media.

“On behalf of the Government of the Republic, I present my condolences to the families of the victims,” ​​the minister wrote on his Twitter, stating that a meeting is being held to adopt the relevant measures after what happened.
