At least 30 people kidnapped by a group of armed men in western Nigeria

At least 30 people were kidnapped this Wednesday by a group of armed men who attacked several vehicles in Niger State, western Nigeria.

The kidnapping took place on Wednesday afternoon when the bandits blocked a street in the municipality of Rafi with aerial shots.

The attackers attacked a total of three vehicles, including an 18-seater bus, reports the Nigerian press.

The state police commissioner Montag Kuryas has confirmed the kidnapping of at least thirteen passengers, according to the bus driver, who has reported the matter.

The driver has stated that his vehicle, which carried 18 passengers from Yauwuri city, Kebbi state, was going fishing in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Kuryas said.

It was also stated that the bus was arrested by people in “military uniform” who abducted thirteen of the travelers, although the total number of abductees would be at least 30, taking into account the occupants of the other vehicles, according to media reports.

The Niger State Police Commissioner has arranged for an “aggressive pursuit” of the kidnappers to be launched and urged residents to “provide reliable information that can help stop the criminals”.
