According to local authorities, at least 30 people were killed in clashes between militants from the Islamist terrorist group Al Shabaab and civilians in central Somalia.
“We are informed of almost 30 deaths, including 16 militiamen in the city of Shabeelow, where the neighbors (…) have taken up arms to fight the terrorists,” said a spokesman for the Galmudug region authorities, Osman Isse Nur, in Statements to the DPA news agency.
“The neighbors have decided to fight the militiamen to protect their cattle from the terrorists,” he added.
After five hours of intense fighting, 14 civilians died and dozens more were injured in the city of Galkayo. Abdi Siyaad, a notable representative of the region, warned the DPA that civilians use arms to defend themselves against “brutality”. and threats from Al Shabaab.
