At least 22 suspected terrorists were killed by the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (SDS) in an operation that took place this Wednesday in the Mocimboa da Praia district in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, where an Islamist insurgency began. .

According to reports from the Carta de Mozambique newspaper, citing military sources, the operation was carried out this Friday, combining a land and air offensive, and some members of the target group had managed to flee to the Palma and Nangade districts .

According to sources, 13 of the 22 dead terrorists were captured and subsequently killed because they refused to “cooperate” with the SDS. The operation also killed two Mozambican soldiers and, according to sources, also found the remains of ten soldiers who are believed to have been killed by suspected Islamic State militia soldiers in the May 28 invasion of the city of Macomia.
