At least 15 people have died and about 40 are missing as a result of the floods and landslides that have caused monsoon rains in various parts of Nepal since Wednesday.
The hardest hit location is that of Dhorpatan in the center of the country, and according to Deputy Mayor Karmati Pun Magar, almost all victims correspond to this location. “The number of people who disappeared could increase as we are still collecting information from families and neighbors,” he told the DPA news agency.
Authorities estimate that more than fifty homes were destroyed in the storm, and Magar has confirmed that the affected families have been evacuated to a safe area. The search for the deceased and survivors is set to continue early Friday.
Monsoon-related storms have killed at least 250 people in Nepal since June. The Nepalese Interior Ministry estimates that more than a hundred people are missing.
