At least 14 people have died and another 24 have been injured by the explosion of a mine while passing a bus in the Malian region of Mopti, in the center of the African country, according to a balance of victims confirmed by the Minister of Security, Salif I traor.
On board the bus, which crossed the Douentza territory, about 60 passengers were traveling, explained the company spokesman SONEF, Mohamed Diakite, who had initially confirmed eight dead. Traoré has raised the deceased to 14, although he has warned that seven of the injured “are in a critical situation.”
A person who was at the scene and who has lost his sister and his niece in the attack has confirmed to the Reuters agency that “the Army is trying to recover the bodies from under the bus.”
The Government has avoided speculating about its possible authorship. Militias of an ethnic nature and also Islamist terrorists are active in the area and no group has assumed responsibility for the explosion.
