The Bangladeshi authorities this Saturday confirmed the deaths of at least eleven people in an explosion associated with a gas leak from a mosque in Narayanganj, near the capital Dhaka.
The explosion started on Friday night when the believers finished their prayers. Initially, the authorities used the character of a deceased, a seven-year-old boy, although according to the local newspaper ‘The Daily Star’, ten more people eventually lost their lives.
Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, spokeswoman for the Sheikh Hasina National Burn Institute, has confirmed that around 40 people were seriously injured after the explosion in the Baitus Salat Jame Mosque.
Firefighters hypothesize that the gas that accumulated in a pipeline after a leak was the cause of the explosion.
